Worship

Maybe you are a traveler passing through town; maybe you are a new neighbor. Whether you are clear about your spiritual journey or wavering in doubt, we welcome you to join in our regular worship services and/or to visit our sanctuary at any time for prayer or quiet meditation. Worship in the Episcopal church connects us to centuries of tradition and to churches around the world.

Our weekly services are at 10 a.m. on Sunday and always include Scripture readings, prayers from the Book of Common Prayer, a short sermon interpreting the Scriptures for the world of today, and hymns from the Hymnal 1982 of the Episcopal Church. On the second and fourth Sunday of the month, we normally have a priest with us to celebrate Holy Communion. All people who wish to receive spiritual nourishment are invited to receive. On other Sundays, we gather for a Morning Prayer service led by an experienced lay reader.

At St. Barnabas, we find joy in celebrating the different holidays of the Christian year. Advent candles, Christmas greenery, and Easter flowers appear in turn. The words and music of our services change in accordance with the season. For special services such as Ash Wednesday, we sometimes join forces with St. Paul’s Church in White River Junction or St. Martin’s Church in Fairlee, who are our partners in the Upper Valley Constellation.

We love to have children present in worship and participating in their own way. A child-sized table in the back corner is kept stocked with crayons, stickers, and storybooks. For children and adults who may need a break, a door to the left leads to the Parish Hall, where they can find restrooms and snacks.
